NUS Rag Day 09/10. The Birth of A New Winner

NUS Rag Day.
Three months of hard work boiled down to this very moment – King Edward VII Hall crowned the NUS Presidential Overall Best Float.

I broke down into tears, tears of joy.
All of us did.

A historic moment for KE Vll, we have waited too long for this.

From designing to building the structure, from scaling KEnovo to choreography, each and every department slogged our holidays away for this – the birth of a winning float!

Yes, I can finally shout out loud, KE VII rules! Pictures are all over Facebook, so I shan’t post much.

To all my dancers, especially the cheerleaders,
I love you guys so much.
Thanks for enduring hours and hours of training under me and my fellow choreographers.

Reflections

A good day for reflections,
at this unearthly hour again I know.

I fell out with a good friend last night.
Though we have many things in common and we joke around alot,
I simply could not digest the way he handle things,
and he’s disappointed in me for judging him.
And we’re still neighbours for the next academic year, sighs.
Complicated.

A wake-up call today during cheerleading.
Ellen fell down from elevator, I fell down from elavator.
I was fine coz I landed on my back, but Ellen went head-down.
We were shocked for a couple of seconds, coz she lay there motionless.
Thank heavens she’s all right, just a big boo-boo.

Damien threw the question right at our faces, ” What if she’s really injured or cracked her skull?”
Things got a little feisty. Everyone had something to say, everyone had an excuse.
But yeah, the fundamental question is, ” Have we been serious enough in what we’re doing?

Wengbo broke down into sobs earlier in the evening whislt prep-talking the dancers,
and I had to take over the talking for her.
Some people just needed an attitude adjustment, some people just needed to focus more.
But, a little something here and there, adds up to everything.

Round One

It’s been a long day today, and an even longer one tomorrow.
I should be sleeping at this unearthly hour.

Round one of the NUSSU vetting was over.
Basically they wanted not only to vet through the cheerleading stunts we’ll be performing,
they also wanted to know the exact couples performing the stunts. SO MA FAN~!

We gotta go through the final round of vetting next week with all our stunts and all the cheerleaders present.
*fingers cross, pray*

To all the seniors and freshmen in the team, you guys rock.
Just two more weeks to show time, shake it up yeah!

Asian Youth Games 2009 Opening Ceremony

Now that it has ended I feel kinda nostalgic.

Though initially there was the issue of the fugly-shocking-pink costume and slippery-until-can-fall-down shoes (and me pulling my hamstring),
I think everyone had fun in the end.
Coolest thing is it was live telecast.
That’s the bad thing about being a performer, you have no idea how you look on stage.

We had a preview show on Saturday but it was nothing compared to the real thing on Monday where the stadium was brimming with spectators and of course with the presence of the Prime Minister.

Honestly it was the performance that left us gawking during the rehearsals.

The theme song we danced to, awesome, though it got a lil hard to digest after the nth time you listen to it.

Once-in-a-lifetime experience, love it.

Brain-Dead

There are times when Wengbo and I just go brain-dead and and stone in the dance room for a couple of hours, watching La Bi Xiao Xin instead of choreographing.
It wouldn’t be long till the both of us turn into retards for imprisoning ourselves in that room full of mirrors.

I particularly hate stunt nights. They’re tiring and we’re not really getting any better.

Anyway Mich and I finally couldn’t tahan the stress and boredom, and it was Wednesday, so we  snuck out and zouked.
Met Kenneth and Damien.

I need to workout more, sigh.

Stunts

Float is currently in its secondary phase of work.
Designers have more or less completed the final model whilst engineers swing into action with electric drills, saws and hammers.
As for choreography, I’ve been stuck with my co-choreographers for the past two days, venturing out our air-conditioned dance room only during meal times, and staying up till wee hours of the night.

Music editing is hard work!
I’ve been struggling with the stupid software for the entire week, mixing and matching the songs, fixing the pitch and tempo.
Hopefully (if dear Guan Yin Ma permits it) we can start the choreography by weekend.
We tried a few couple stunts just now , and my arms feel like they’re breaking now.
A few more weeks of lifting, swinging and tossing girls overhead and I’m gonna have the most beautiful set of biceps ever.

I need to hit the gym to build muscels, starting tomorrow.
There are a few stunts that are just oh-so-impossible =.=

Practice

If you tune in on 29th June, you might see me on tv.
Okay maybe just a glance.
Went for my first dance practice today for the opening ceremony of the Asian Youth Games in Singapore.
Freaking alot of catching up coz I didnt turn up last week.
Damn fun, damn shag.
